The College of Education Advising Center is committed to empowering students to identify and achieve their personal, academic, and career goals of becoming exemplary helping professionals who holds fast to their chosen profession’s accreditation and ethical standards.
The mission of the College of Education Advising Center is to assist students in defining, clarifying, and achieving their academic and educational goals. Advisors guide students through the university, college, and department rules, regulations, and requirements so they can graduate and fulfill the requirements of their chosen profession. The Advising Center contributes to the College of Education's and the University’s core values by creating a vital and seamless link between the university, community, college, department, and student.
Transition Point I: Admission to Program
A. Freshmen Level:
1. The student will demonstrate understanding of his/her specific program and curriculum and will take responsibility for meeting the requirements.
(a.) The student will identify options to complete general education and major program requirements.
(b.) The student will prepare a tentative schedule for each semester’s registration.
(c.) The student will reflect on academic performance and review during advising appointment.
(d.) The student will continue an ongoing assessment of academic strengths and areas of growth.
2. The student will recognize appropriate dispositions and professional behaviors associated with career choice.
(a.) The student will interact professionally with all advising center personnel in all contacts with the center.
(b.) The student will take the responsibility to make, keep or cancel advising appointments.
3. The student will attempt to know and to understand university/college/ programs policies, procedures and resources, or at the minimum, how and where to access the information. (Catalog, Career Development, Learning Center, academic forms and calendars, Counseling and Health Center, Norse Express, and Blackboard).
4. The student will be familiar with campus clubs and organizations to include professional organizations affiliated with his/her career.
B. Sophomore Level
1. The student will develop an individualized plan to meet requirements for full admission to his/her specific program.
(a.) The student is achieving progression in his/her individualized program.
(b.) The student will continue to prepare a tentative schedule for each semester’s registration.
(c.) The student is achieving the appropriate academic performance standards to meet full admission requirements.
(d.) The student will continue an ongoing assessment of academic strengths and areas of growth.
2. The student will display appropriate dispositions and professional behaviors associated with career choice.
(a.) The student will interact professionally with all advising center personnel in all contacts with the center.
(b.) The student will take the responsibility to make, keep or cancel advising appointments.
(c.) The student will display professional behaviors as related to the ÁÔÓ¥ÌåÓýÖ±²¥ student code of rights and responsibilities and appropriate professional standards.
3. The student will know university/ college/ program policies and procedures and utilize resources as appropriate.
4. The student will explore opportunities for involvement in extracurricular professional development activities, clubs, conferences, community service, and/or leadership experiences.
Transition Point II: Program Continuation
1. The student will develop an individualized plan to meet requirements for graduation from his/her specific program.
(a.) The student is achieving progression in his/her individualized program.
(b.) The student will continue to prepare a tentative schedule for each semester’s registration.
(c.) The student is achieving the appropriate academic performance standards to meet professional core requirements.
(d.) The student will continue an ongoing assessment of academic strengths and areas of growth.
(e.) Student will explore and plan strategies for meeting their exit and/or certification/licensure requirements.
2. The student will display appropriate dispositions and professional behaviors associated with career choice.
(a.) The student will interact professionally with all advising center personnel in all contacts with the center.
(b.) The student will take the responsibility to make, keep or cancel advising appointments.
(c.) The student will display professional behaviors as related to the ÁÔÓ¥ÌåÓýÖ±²¥ student code of rights and responsibilities and appropriate professional standards.
3. The student will follow university/ college/ program policies and procedures and utilize resources as appropriate.
4. The student will explore opportunities for involvement in extracurricular professional development activities, clubs, conferences, community service, and/or leadership experiences.
Transition Point III: Program Completion
1. The student will successfully complete program requirements for graduation from his/her specific program.
(a.) Student has met the required program academic requirements.
(b.) Student will demonstrate the appropriate knowledge and skills for his/her profession.
2. The student will display appropriate dispositions and professional behaviors associated with career choice.
(a.) The student will interact professionally with all colleagues and professional personnel.
(b.) The student will proactively plan transitioning from student life to professional life by meeting all required deadlines and responsibilities.
