IHI Faculty Fellows Request for Proposals


Purpose

The Institute for Health Innovation is committed to supporting faculty activities at 猎鹰体育直播. As part of our initiatives to enhance faculty accomplishments, we are offering two funding opportunities annually.


Seed Grants 

Provide support for faculty research, scholarship, creative endeavors, or teaching efforts in health, health literacy, healthcare, and the social determinants of health. They are aimed at assisting faculty members in the initial phases of research, scholarship, or creative projects or in developing innovative courses or course sequences (micro-credentials, certificates, etc.). These activities may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  1. Funding of critical experiments
  2. Purchase/updating of necessary supplies or instrumentation
  3. Support for students who will help in the project


Branch Awards

Provide support for faculty in moving from 鈥渄iscussion鈥 of interdisciplinary collaboration to action, which will heighten their professional visibility or the impact of 猎鹰体育直播 in the fields of health, health literacy, healthcare, or the social determinants of health. The award should focus on broadening one鈥檚 intellectual profile or exploring new facets of research, scholarship, creative, or community engagement endeavors that will invigorate ongoing and future programs. These activities may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  1. Advanced training in a particular area
  2. Interdisciplinary or cross-institutional collaboration
  3. Entrepreneurial or community endeavors
  4. University projects that benefit any IHI initiatives
  5. Health-related projects that have a diversity or cultural focus


Submission Information

  • Individuals may request up to a maximum of $3,000.
  • Awardees must agree to share their outcomes with the campus community. Recipients will make a presentation that includes the benefits received from the grant at an IHI sponsored gathering or will share a brief report on their experiences to be posted on the IHI website and in the IHI newsletter. Where appropriate, IHI will seek press coverage and other publicity for programs and events supported by grants.
  • Use of these funds to leverage academic unit contributions is encouraged.
  • Proposals are due by 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2024 and awards will be announced at the end of May 2024. Funds will be available when the summer fiscal year begins on Monday, July 1, 2024.

 

Submission Guidelines

The application will be submitted on-line using the button below. The application packet will include the following:

Personal Information: Please fill out the linked datasheet.

Budget and budget justification: Please fill out the linked datasheet.

Project Description (five-page maximum; please use single spacing, a minimum 12-point font, and a minimum 1鈥 margin.):

  • Introduction and Statement of Purpose: State the activity for which you are requesting funding for and explain how the proposed activity will enhance your activities and the IHI鈥檚 mission.
  • Description: Provide details of the aims, methods, and expected outcomes of the proposed activities.
  • Plans for Dissemination: State how you intend to leverage the grant for future activities, or how you intend to promote your experiences or outcomes both to the campus community and outside of the institution.
  • Timeline or Management Plan: Provide a timeline or description of the activities over the (up to) one-year funding period. If applicable, describe how the project will be managed.

CV or biosketch (four-page maximum) for PI

IRB approval if applicable

Letter of support from the collaborating personnel or institution if any outside activity involving collaboration or other activities are planned.

Email approval from department chair

Email approval from college dean.

 

Proposal Evaluation

A committee including members of the IHI will review applications. Special care will be taken to prevent conflicts of interest. Identities of all applicants and reviewers will remain confidential. Applicants can receive review summaries upon request.

IHI Faculty Fellow grants will be evaluated for funding along the following measures:

  • Potential for positive impact
  • Potential for enhancing research program or curricular innovation (if applicable)
  • Justification of budget
  • Overall quality of the application

Please note: Faculty may submit for more than one award per year. Funding of more than one award will be at the discretion of the IHI team.


Additional Requirements and Conditions


Funding Period

Funds must be expended no later than Friday, June 13, 2025 in order to meet fiscal year end deadlines. All budget items are subject to 猎鹰体育直播 guidelines. Proposals may be approved for funding, but the requested budget may be revised in accordance with University policies.

Awardees agree to participation in grant program assessment.

Any scholarship resulting from this award must acknowledge support from the IHI.


Reporting

  • Recipients must submit a one-page Progress Report six months after award start date (no later than Friday, January 10, 2024).
  • A one-page Final Report is due one year after award start date (Monday, June 30, 2025).
  • Each report should include a description of grant activities, a summary of how the funds were expended to date, and an account of progress towards achieving the stated goals of the proposal.

Any full-time faculty member working for 猎鹰体育直播 in any discipline may apply. If applicants have questions about the eligibility of a potential proposal, please send a brief summary to hardcastle@nku.edu and one of the IHI staff members will review it.
